Mantra and Movement
This is a holistic and playful form of yoga. A moving meditation practice designed to help release stress on a cellular level, improve circulation and re-align the whole being. In this practice, movements are slowed to help you connect with the present moment and focus on harmonizing breath with movement. Each class is unique, and creatively structured to align the physical, mental, emotional and intuitive self, creating space for energy to flow within and beyond the physical body. This approach emphasizes a balanced practice, calming the body and mind and guiding you into a naturally clear, meditative state. Together we will explore classical elements of yoga (mantra, breathing, sound, postures, meditation) weaving in aspects of Qigong and Zen Imagery techniques. Bringing forward ancient wisdom for a modern age, this practice honors the essence and origin of yoga. You will have the opportunity to learn more about yoga and the purpose of diverse yogic techniques, leaving this class with useful tools to improve well-being both on and off the mat.
We focus on energetic alignment, an intuitive and playful approach to alignment that goes beyond muscle and bone. We will explore the pranamaya kosha ( the sphere of our life energies) which mediates between the physical body on one side and the three sheaths of the mind (outer mind, intelligence, and inner mind) on the other. By engaging the Pancha Vayus (the 5 directions of prana/life force), we’ll explore alignment that draws upon internal wisdom. The movements respect the innate intelligence and intuition of our body, connecting you to your own rhythm while opening to the pace and energy of others. The practices bow deeply to the sacred relationship that we have with our own form.
Slow Flow and Restore
This is such a juicy combination of yang(slow flow) and yin(restore) and will leave you feeling truly blissed out. This class is suitable for all levels as we mindfully explore the yin and yang components of yoga. Awaken your spirit and open your heart through a slow flow that will ease you through asanas (postures) releasing tension in the body. Synchronizing breath with movement clears out blocked energy so this class is aimed to lift your spirits and leave you feeling relaxed and refreshed. Props will be provided for extra support during our restorative poses, which helps us to relax into the deepest layers of the body. You will be sure to leave feeling calm, peaceful and balanced after this healing practice.
This class invites you to slow down and settle into your body and your breath. A combination of yin yoga and restorative postures encourages a slow paced class with longer held postures. Incorporating props and chair yoga, you’ll find what you need to be fully supported through this class and allow your body to unwind!
Join Samantha Wilkie for an enchanting evening of pranayama, meditation and group mantra chanting. Bhakti yoga is an expression of devotional sentiment held in the heart, based on compassion and devotion to Divinity.
Kirtan ( group chanting ) is a practice for cutting through the idea of separation, for connecting to our hearts and connecting to the moment through sound. In kirtan, we sing our praises to the divine in the many forms in which it manifests. When you’re sitting in a kirtan, gently bring your wandering mind back to the chant over and over again. With regular, sincere practice over time, thoughts don’t grab you so deeply. Emotions don’t wipe you out so completely. It changes your psyche.
The literal translation of the word mantra is to guide and protect the mind. Mantra helps to guide your awareness to a place that is quiet and still. Each chant revolves around a particular mantra ( a sacred sound formula that has a specific focus and energy). These mantras often feature the names of the myriad gods and goddesses that were identified by the ancient rishis (or seers) in Vedic times. These names are the names of that place inside of us that is love, pure being, pure awareness, pure joy.
This is a safe space to explore sacred sound and no experience is necessary.
